The Painter's Eye is a three-part work. Each respective part depicts a cone of colored pigment made up out of one of the three secondary colors, green, violet, orange. Through the elaborate process of double exposing a color negative, two exposures were made consecutively of two cones made up out of two of the three primary colors, that is yellow-blue, blue-red, red-yellow. The Painter's Eye photographically demonstrates formal principles of color theory central to painting, thereby further complicating the inherent relation between photography and painting. In this respect The Painter's Eye represents the possibility of an image, seen through a camera's aperture or rendered through a painter's paint and brush. |
